World Kidney Day is celebrated every year on the second Thursday of March, with the aim of raising awareness and educating the public about the prevention and care of kidney disease. In 2025, the day is celebrated on 13 March, with a central message:
“Are your kidneys okay? Detect early to protect kidney health” is the message this year, in the context of World Kidney Day.
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is estimated to affect around 850 million people worldwide. If not detected and treated early, CKD can progress to kidney failure, leading to serious complications and premature mortality. By 2040, CKD is projected to become the 5th leading cause of life-year loss, highlighting the urgent need for global strategies to combat kidney disease. Populations at high risk for kidney disease should be targeted for screening.
Find the Pancyprian Kidney Patients Organization at the Mall of Cyprus on March 15th from 12:30 pm to 6:30 pm and be informed about the prevention of kidney disease, kidney health and organ donation.
The event will include blood pressure measurement by volunteer nurses. Members of the BIOBANK Centre team will also participate in the activities for World Kidney Day.
