In light of the World Hypertension Day, Friday, May 26, 2017, from 16:00 to 19:00, in The Mall of Cyprus in Nicosia, the public will have the opportunity to be informed of the serious implications caused by hypertension, and also for the diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
According to scientists, hypertension evolves to epidemic proportions as more than one billion people that is more than 25% of the world population, suffers from hypertension.
In Cyprus, evidence shows that the disease assumes alarming proportions, as 1 in 4 people are hypertensive, while the percentage increases in people over 60 years, and 1 in 2 has high blood pressure.
Sedentary lifestyle, lack of exercise, unhealthy diet, obesity, stress, and smoking are some of the factors causing high blood pressure.
“Know Your Numbers” is this year’s message of the awareness campaign organised in all Cyprus’ cities by the Cyprus Society of Hypertension, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of Hypertension.
The campaign is under the auspices of the honorable Minister of Health, Dr. George Pamborides.
